♦ Chicago’s open space advocates are vowing to file a lawsuit to block George Lucas from building the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Other opponent of the plan include aldermen who believe the museum should be built downtown or in one of the city’s economically disadvantaged wards

♦ Billionaires have all the fun! As expected from the Allen & Co conference, News Corp’s Rupert Murdoch did put in a bid to acquire cable giant Time Warner. As reported by USA “Today, 21st Century Fox, a film and TV company controlled by Rupert Murdoch, offered to buy Time Warner last month for about $80 billion, a deal that would combine two of the largest players in the cable network business and possibly unleash a wave of consolidation among content producers.” This deal was rejected but he is still going ahead with it. This news had pre-market trading shares of Time Warner soaring 15% to $81.64. Time Warner owns HBO, Turner Broadcasting System and Warner Bros.

♦ Apple & IBM, the two former rivals, have joined forces to sell enterprises on iOS hardware and business apps backed by IBM services which will pose a likely threat/competition to Google’s enterprise business.


♦ Dwyane Wade has signed on to return to Miami Heat joining forward Chris Bosh, Mario Chalmers and forward-center Chris Andersen, and Udonis Haslem and former Chicago Bulls Luol Deng.

♦ Derek Jeter played his final All Star Game and the American League beat National league 5-3.

♦ Maxwell Osborne & Dao Yi Chow the duo of design house Public School(menswear) as well as Marcia Patmos of M. Patmos (womens wear) took home the the regional award of the International Woolmark Prize. The will each receive $47,000, plus the opportunity to represent the U.S. in the international final.
