City of Chicago's OFFICIAL SXSW Showcase 2014 Chance the rapper
Chicago was fully represented for the first time at this year’s SXSW.

The Chicago music showcase on Tuesday, March 11 at Red 7 in Austin, Texas featured local born and raised talents from various genres and successes.

There was no surprise when hip hop artist Chance the Rapper headlined the scene, however, after 18 minutes the over-sold performance came to end when a fire marshall shut down the set due to a crowd over the 300 person capacity limit for the venue.

Born Chancellor Bennett, Chance the Rapper knew he wanted to be a rapper from a young age. He found his voice for performing at open-mic and poetry nights and heavily influenced by artists like fellow Chicagoan Kanye West’s College Dropout album. Since his break, young artist has pushed himself through to become an iconic name in the hip hop scene after releasing a mix tape titled “Acid Rap” in 2013.
