CONFIRMED! Nicolas Ghesquière New Louis Vuitton Creative Director

The rumors began when it was rumoured that Marc Jacobs would be leaving Louis Vuitton to focus on taking his company public. The rumour went into overdrive when Marc Jacobs announced his departure and now Louis Vuitton has officially confirmed the placement of Nicolas Ghesquière as the new Creative Director of the brand and we couldn’t be happier for fashion!!!


According to WWD and confirmed by Louis Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquière has been appointed new artistic director of women’s collections, effective immediately. Louis Vuitton is owned by by the LVMH Group led by Bernard Arnault.

Chicago is home to a free standing Louis Vuitton  store (as well as other major LVMH brands) and most recently the company hosted the kickoff of EXPO Chicago as well as celebrating their arrival in Chicago since the World Exposition.
So who is Nicolas Ghesquière?

He was recently the creative director of Balenciaga and he put new life into the brand and made it one of the hottest fashion brands. Parted ways with Kering in November 2012.
He is 42
He was raised in France
At the age of 12 he was already sketching dress designs and making dresses out of his mother’s curtains and making earrings out of his grandmother’s chandelier crystals.
He became head of Balenciaga at age 25
His muses have included Kirsten Stewart, Jennifer Connelly

At Balanciaga, Ghesquière cultivated an aura of hyper-exclusivity, staging rapid-fire shows for an elite audience, accentuating an experimental approach to fashion that widely influenced other runways and made him a popular figure among editors and retailers.

He is sure to bring a new gust of fashion excitement to Vuitton, and perhaps crystalize a new feminine image for the heritage brand, which will mark its 160th anniversary in 2014.

The Frenchman’s challenge will be to adapt to Vuitton’s massive scale, vast global audience, and a brand image sometimes linked to travel and sporty pursuits including sailing and fine automobiles.

This news comes on the heels of the LVMH group investing in the J.W Anderson(29) brand and appointing him  as the Creative Director of spanish leather goods company LOEWE as well as investing in the Nicholas Kirkwood (33) brand.
